Crowded Restaurant

The restaurant in Greentown is so crowded in the 3rd day of Chinese New Year. As normal, people gather at cafe & restaurant for reunion to share their stories in the past one year. This phenomena should last for another one or two more days before the youngsters back to their working position away from Ipoh.

Market Terrace

Market Terrace (Tingkat Pasar) although is not a major street in town but it is a famous spot for cheap & useful stuff. It used to have a second-hand goods outdoor market selling all kind of funny & unique used items. The market has moved to Osborne Street many years ago. However, the shops at Market Terrace still popular on selling low cost house hold items.

Kinta River in Town

Kinta River is the mother river of Ipoh. Ipoh was first established at its west bank during the end of 19th century. The fast growing tin mining industry had boomed the development of this small town. To solve the congestion, bridges were built to cross over Kinta River at early 20th century and raised a new township on its east bank. That is the formation of the Old Town & New Town. In the modern day, this segregation is fading away under the rapid transportation & urban development. Many youngsters may not differentiate the Old Town & New Town but rather recognize both as the original city center.

Lam Looking Bazaar

Seeing the current condition of this building, I am sure many senior citizens of Ipoh would feel sad. The Lam Looking Bazaar was once a very happening spot of Ipoh. It was built in 1933 & had hotel, restaurant, shopping arcade & even an opera hall under one roof. Perak Emporium was occupied the building in 1970’s as a famous shopping center in town. However, situation has changed since 1990’s. Lam Looking Bazaar lost its attraction due to the establishment of modern shopping malls in the city. It even damaged in a fire in 2005 that makes the building fully evacuated. Thus far, no restoration plan is visible & the future of this building still unclear.

Out of Service

These lamp posts that placed surrounding Padang Ipoh (Ipoh Field) have been out of service for some time. I found it last night where the lamp posts are removed & gathered at one corner of the field. It was installed few years ago to decorate Padang Ipoh but seem like the maintenance was poor. Will the City Council replace with new one?

Old Post Box

I believe this old post box in Ipoh Railway Station is the only one of its type that left in the city. The crown symbol on it simply tells this post box has stood here since the British colonial era but I can't figure out how old is it. Somehow I truely do not like the stickers that pasted by the Post Office.
